The application
In the Break Builder interruptions and breaks can be inserted and modified.
Overview
The Break Builder application consists of a control area and the calendar view in which the program plan is displayed and interruptions can be inserted and modified.
Additional controls

The additional controls are divided into 3 views:
-
Target minutes - a broadcast day is split in consecutive time units with specific start and end times. For each time unit the target for advertising minutes is displayed next to the actually planned advertising time.
Please note: planned advertising time refers to the planned interruption durations. The target minutes for advertising per time unit are determined in the media's commercial rules. For the target minutes of the actual time units records must be created in Break Builder masterdata/ Target minutes (LINK!!!)
- Commercial rules - the allowed advertising minutes per hour which are determined in media masterdata is displayed.
- Forecast - ???
Views and settings
- There are 3 views with different functions in the Break Builder. The functionalities of the views will be detailed in subsequent chapters.
- Selection of the channel.
- Through the Zoom bar the user can zoom in and out on the broadcast elements. The lower the zoom factor the more precise is the display of programs, breaks and spots.
- Scope - with this function you control how many days are displayed in the calendar frame. If you select a 4-day period and put the scope on "1", there will only be one day displayed in the frame and you will have to scroll to left or right to see the other days. If you select "2", two days will share the frame. The higher the scope the more days are displayed at once and share the calendar frame.
- Selection of the period that is about to be displayed.
- Reload and update the view via Refresh-button.
- The arrow buttons move the selected time frame one day back or forward.
- The calendar widget is opend and closed by clicking on the calendar button. You can select the weekdays and hours that are (not) about to be displayed in the program plan. Please note: grey highlighting indicates that the option is selected.
Context menu of the displayed day

The context menu of the day is opened by rightclicking the date in the view. Basically Import- and Publish-view only provide the user with infomation, but there are no modifications possible.
In Integration-view the user has the possibilities to import the program plan from Import-view, to create and modify interruptions and breaks, perform a rundown on the selected dates and finally publish the program plan for booking in MYDAS.
Integrate
After importing a program plan you need to make it available for Integration view.
Please note: after every import you have to integrate the imported program plan to make sure it's up to date and you don't do modifications on an outdated version!
Compare mode
The compare mode opens all views of the selected date in one frame. This way it's easy to track modifications on the program plan.
Compare rundown
The Compare rundown provides a detailed comparison of the views that are available for the selected day.
Rundown
- In the Rundown you can run a detailed check on target advertising time per hour and the advertising time actually planned.
- Program elements can be hidden from the view by removing the flag from the checkbox.
- The break codings are set to editable after clicking the "Show Coding"-button. Now the codings can be adjusted manually. Codings that contain an invalid price group are highlighted orange.
Mass processing
In Mass processing additional templates (if available) can be applied to several programs.
Ideal minute
Regularly an hour starts at 0 minutes (e.g. 08:00). If an Ideal Minute is set, the virtual start and end of the hours is delayed for the value of the ideal minute and the allowed commercial time is calculated for the "new" hours.
But note: the Ideal Minute is applied for the entire broadcast day! It is not possible to delay only specific hours.
Example: allowed commercial time per hour = 12 min.
Ideal Minute = 20 --> the station is allowed to plan commercial time of 12 min. in hours starting and ending on minute 20 (e.g. 08:20 - 09:20).
Horizontal copy

The Horizontal copy function copies the entire program plan of the date on which the context menu was opened.
- These are the target dates. The program plan of the source date will be copied to the selected dates.
- Selection of the weekdays. This way it is possible to copy the program plan of the source date to certain weekdays during the selected period. For example copy day X to every Sunday and bank holiday within the selected target period.
- Rules for copying - werden die benutzt? konnte keinen Unterschied am Ergebnis feststellen wenn Regeln aktiviert wurden
- Click on the copy-button to open the check on the settings.
- To confirm the selections and start copying you need to click the Ja-button.
Publish

Once your done modifying a program plan, you need to publish it for booking in MYDAS.
Import new version for the day

If an updated program plan for a day is imported, the system provides the possibility to overwrite the current program plan with the updated one in the Integration view.
Please note: planned interruptions and breaks will be deleted with integrating the updated program plan!
Context menu of program elements

The context menu can be opened for each program element. The options of the menu are described in the following steps.
Details

The program element's details contain basic information on the program element, for example its name and duration. Connected records of the container, version name and program details can be accessed by clicking on the respective links.
