Create Selling Options (linear, digital, impact)

Selling Options are a very powerful tool within MYDAS. Within this module, you control a large number of functions within campaigns. On the one hand, selling options define a specific inventory that is used for a campaign. On the other hand, the Selling Options control how this inventory is used and optimized in relation to the campaign.

The setting options and filters that you can use in this module are extensive.

A selling option can be assigned at different levels:

  • Bundle
  • Placement

If a selling option is linked at the bundle level, this selling option is applied to all placements.
If a direct selling option is assigned to a placement, then this selling option only applies to this placement. This may also override the selling option from a higher-level bundle.

A selling option that is edited is saved as a copy of the actual selling option.

Creation of a Selling Option

In order to create a selling option, a media kind must first be selected so that the corresponding filters can be loaded. The Media Kind cannot be changed after it has been saved. The button "Set Media Kind" is the save button in the Selling Option UI.

Only after the Media Kind has been selected does the button change color: "Set Media Kind" into a dark orange.

ACTION:

  1. Click on the field Media Kind and a Drop-Down menu will open with all available Media Kinds
  2. Select the Media Kind for the Selling Option
  3. Press the "Set media kind" Button

Result:

You have created a Selling Option.

Selling Option Settings

After the selling option is saved, various settings can be done. These settings essentially control:

  1. The relationship between booking portals and MYDAS
  2. The handling of selling options by the optimizer
  3. Various restrictions and rules for bundles or placements

Let us now take a closer look at the Selling Option Header.

1 Exclusive Flag

By activating this flag you can make a selling option exclusive for booking. This means that the inventory of this selling option cannot be used by any other selling option. This function makes sense, for example, with sponsorship offers that can only be used by themselves.

2 Inventory Index

Defines the Price Index for the selling Option.

This function will move to Root-Deal Indicies in a later stage

3 Delivery Weight

The delivery weight can be used to control the importance of the inventory in automatic optimization. The higher the value is set, the higher the selling option is rated in the hierarchy.

4 Max Delivery Percentage

The max delivery percentage value can be used to influence the level of fulfillment of the booking. For example, with a weight of 80%, only this portion of the bookings will be delivered.

5 Selling Option Family

Selling options are bundled in what is known as selling option families. These selling option families are in turn, stored in the deal, which in turn supplies the base rate, i.e. the base price for the selling option.

6 Order Types

The order types determine which order types the selling option can be booked on. This information is important for communication with the booking portals. One or more order types can be assigned. Click on an already selected order type to remove it.

7 Bookable

The bookable flag determines whether a selling option can be booked via a portal. If the flag is set, the selling option can be offered via a portal.

8 Optimization Rule

The Optimization Rule controls the Optimizer, which determines how the Optimizer should proceed.

  • Every Day = The bookings are recorded and optimized by the optimizer every day
  • Initial = the bookings are only recorded once by Optimizer and are excluded from any further run
  • Never = The optimizer ignores the bookings on the selling option

9 Description

In this free text field, information on the selling option can be transferred to the portal.

10 Active Flag

Selling options can be set to active, via the active flag, these selling options are then used in the system. Inactive Selling Options are no longer used by the system.

11 Minimum GRP

A value in the minimum GRP indicates how many GRP at least must be booked via a portal.

12 Positioning is allowed Flag

If this flag is set, positioning requests may be received via the booking portals. Positioning requests can be First in Break or Last in Break.

13 Fixed in Break Flag

If this flag is set, then all spots that are booked using this selling option are given the FIX BOOKING feature. The optimizer will then not transfer this booking to another break.

14 Set Target Group Media Mapping

With this function, additional instructions are given to the selling option. By mapping the target group and the media, it is determined that only certain media from the selling option are available for certain target groups.

Example: A selling option comprises several senders. For the target group of children, however, only children's channels are available from this selling option.

You can create a mapping using the following steps:

  1. Choose a target group
  2. Selection of channels - Several channels can be selected. You can remove stations from the selection by simply clicking on the station in the selection
  3. You can also add several mappings in a selling option - simply click on the plus icon and repeat the first two steps
  4. You can just as easily remove a mapping by clicking the trash can icon to the right of the mapping

15 Update Copies

The selling option you see on the UI in MYDAS is always the original. Whenever you assign the selling option to a bundle or a placement, a copy of the original is created and attached. This is to prevent a selling option from being accidentally changed in the bundle and at the same time gives the flexibility to adapt a selling option, to the conditions of a campaign.

16 Show Breaks

If the original is now edited, the copies that are distributed over the bundles should also be brought up to date. The "Update Copies" function is available for this purpose. All copies will be updated by clicking the corresponding button.

17 Reduce Header

You can use the arrow in the header to expand or collapse the header view. This helps you to create more space on the work surface.

Application of the filters

A Selling Option without any filters contains the full Inventory that is stored in MYDAS. But the aim of a selling option is to select just a part of the inventories. To do that we use Filters. The filters can be used to define the scope of the selling option. In general, the following properties of the filters should be familiar:

a) Selection of Filters

All filters for the selling option are pre-defined. These are assigned to the Control Value Media Kind. You can find the assigned filters on the right edge of the screen.

ACTION:

  1. Click on a filter in the Filters Area (one click is enough)
  2. The Filter will now be displayed on the Workspace
  3. By pushing the "Trash" Button the Filter-Item will be deleted

You can create as many filters as you need for the selection. Just repeat the steps 1 & 2 to create more filters.

b) OR - Filters

It may happen that you need more than one filter criterion for a characteristic. For example, you need two or more channels in your selection. These filters are called OR filters.

Follow steps 1 & 2 from the previous chapters. So look for a feature (e.g. channel) and click on the feature once. As previously explained, you will now find the feature on the work surface.

You can now find an operator according to the specification of the filter (in the example of the channel, this is "equals"). Sometimes you will be given several operators to choose from. You can also use the drop-down menu to choose a value.

But what if you need a second transmitter in your filter?

ACTION:

  1. By hovering with the cursor over the grey filter area there will be a blue "+" sign shown - Click on this PLUS
  2. Select another value

RESULT:

The new Line with an OR will be inserted in the section. This means a Value A or a Value B will be filtered by this specification. (In this case, it means "Give me all breaks from channel RTL4 or from channel x)

c) AND-Filters

In many cases, however, you will also incorporate other features into your query. Such as station and genre. This AND query arises automatically when you select another (or the same feature) from the filter list by clicking. In this case a new section will be created. You can recognize this by the fact that a new grey area is emerging.

Just remember: Everything within a grey area is an OR query. Everything between two or more grey areas is an AND query.

In our example we want to have two channels (or queries) in our selling option AND this should only contain breaks in the "FILM" genre

d) Include or Exclude Values

So far we've only talked about filters that contain certain characteristics. However, it can also happen that certain features should be deliberately excluded. In this case it is possible to turn an INCLUDE filer into an EXCLUDE filter by deactivating the checkbox at the beginning of the line.

By doing this, you will exclude the value from the query.
